The International Hub for Sustainable Development – HIDS – is being designed to be a smart innovation district dedicated to generating solutions for the challenges of sustainable development. With an area of 11,3 million m2, HIDS encompasses the High Technology Hub 2 (Ciatec 2), the Zeferino Vaz campus of Unicamp and the campus 1 of PUC-Campinas.
The proposal is to establish in this territory a model of urban occupation and governance that enables partnerships and cooperation between institutions with skills and interests aimed at providing concrete contributions to sustainable development in a broad way, that is, in its social, economic and environmental axes, as established by the UN's 2030 Agenda, with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
O HIDS Unicamp is the HIDS area that belongs to Unicamp, with a total of 1,4 million m2, adjacent to the University campus, in the Barão Geraldo District, in Campinas. The occupation of this area is an opportunity to consolidate HIDS as a whole, having as a premise the role of Unicamp as a provider of new knowledge, technologies and innovations for sustainable development and as an inducer of the formation of a fourth generation district, capable of enhancing the necessary synergies with both the local community and other external actors, attracting and retaining talent, national and international institutions and significantly expanding the region's strength to respond to the demands of sustainable development at a national and global level.
